December 21, 2018
Dear Litchfield Elementary School District Families,
On December 11, 2018, the Litchfield Elementary School District Governing Board approved boundary revisions that will be in effect as of the 2019-2020 school year.
The boundary revisions were necessary to accommodate the opening of Belen Soto Elementary School in the fall of 2019, the sixteenth school in our “A” rated District. Belen Soto Elementary School will serve kindergarten through 8th grade students. The Boundary Revisions Committee considered the feedback from a variety of responses from our community members over the course of several months, as well as guiding principles such as enrollment and future growth, time to and from school, maximum capacity of a school, elementary and middle school feeder areas and Agua Fria Union High School District boundaries.
While we have received strong support for the boundary revisions, we know that some families do not want to leave their current school that they love. All families are welcome to use the online Open Enrollment process that begins on January 2, 2019 to request attendance at their preferred school. Please click here to begin the online Open Enrollment Application. We are committed to granting every possible application. Notification of Open Enrollment approval will begin after March 15, 2019 and will take several weeks after that to notify all applicants. Current in-district families impacted by boundary revisions will receive priority service. The following areas will be impacted by the revisions and personalized letters have been mailed to these families.
Areas 4, 13, 14, 24b, 25, 36b, and 37 - Move from Scott L. Libby Elementary School to Belen Soto Elementary School (K-8)

Information regarding the need for the Boundary Revisions Committee
In preparation for the Fall 2019 opening of Belen Soto Elementary School, a Boundary Revisions Committee was established to inform Superintendent Gunning's boundary revisions recommendation to the Governing Board that was approved unanimously on December 11, 2018. The Boundary Revisions Committee was comprised of 14 parents, non-parents, Litchfield and Agua Fria District staff, and community leaders. A participatory process was utilized to gather community input. The committee weighed key considerations, data, and all input from all stakeholders.
Belen Soto Elementary School will serve kindergarten through 8th grade students. The funds to construct the new school and complete other facilities renovations will come from the November 2014 bond that was generously approved by local voters.
You may email BRC@lesd.k12.az.us to provide feedback or to thank the Boundary Revisions Committee members for their volunteer service.
