Governing Board

Litchfield Elementary School District Governing Board

Governing Board Members are elected to four-year terms in non-partisan elections to represent the residents within the district’s boundaries. Elections are held in November every other year. The majority of Board seats (three in our district) are up for election in presidential election years. Board members volunteer their time and meet once per month. Boardsmanship requires a significant time commitment, not only in terms of meetings and related events but in preparation. Our Governing Board is a member of the Arizona School Boards Association. Board Members serve the Litchfield Elementary School District community without pay. The Governing Board sets all district policies and has final authority over all school district business.

Individuals interested in running for the Governing Board may request more information from the Maricopa County School Superintendent’s Office at (602) 506-3866.

All Governing Board Meetings will now be posted on "BoardDocs".

Study Sessions
Study sessions are held as needed for the purpose of studying one or more specific issues in depth. No action is taken during a study session. The public is invited to attend. Notification of study sessions is posted at all sites, on the District’s website.

Executive sessions are occasionally scheduled to handle specific Board business matters, which include personnel, legal matters and property purchases. An executive session is closed to the public, but any official action on executive session items is taken during regular Board meetings.

The Purpose of School Governing Boards

As the only elected officials that represent children, the school board's fundamental
role is keeping the district focused on the learning and achievement of all students.
The board accomplishes this by:

-Setting the strategic direction of the district for staff and the community.
-Listening to community input.
-Evaluating and adopting policies consistent with the district vision.
-Equitably allocating district resources based on the district's vision and
goals, and monitoring the district's fiscal health.
-Operating openly and honestly.
-Performing regular and timely evaluations of the superintendent's and the
  district's effectiveness.
-Representing and protecting the district's interests at the local, stave, and
  federal levels.
