Okay, ready for this week's

classwork/homework? Here it is:

*Come to class daily with an "I believe in myself" state of mind!

1.  Spelling homework for the week is already in spellingcity.com.  Spelling quiz will be conducted Thursday, Feb 16th, and spelling activities are due by Feb 16th as well.

2.  Cereal Box Book Report:  Due Friday, February 24th.  You are going to love designing your very own cereal box book report.  First choose a book you've read or are currently reading then follow the instructions below.

Instructions are as follows:

Things You'll Need

  • Cereal box
  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Colored marker

1Take the package of cereal out of the box and place it in a plastic container.

2Cut out construction paper to fit each side of the box and glue it in place.

3Create a cereal title for the front of the box that gives the readers an idea of what the book was about. For example, if you are doing a report on a boy who survived in the forest, you might title your cereal "Wilderness Crunch."

4Draw a picture to show a scene from the book on the front of the cereal box under the title you choose.

5Write "Ingredients" on one side of the cereal box, and list things that happened in your book--period, setting, characters, problems and resolutions.

6Write "Nutritional Information" on the other side of the box and list a percentage of the following things the person will get from the book: action; humor; history; drama; suspense; vocabulary; mystery;and education. For example, if your book was about an Indiana Jones--type character, you might have "100% action, 40% humor, 10% drama, 100% suspense."

7Write a slogan that fits your book on the top back of the cereal box. Think about something that sounds like it fits with cereal, such as Tony the Tiger's "They're GREAT."

8Draw another scene from the book under that phrase.

9Think of something that would have been useful to one of the characters in your book. For example, if your book was about a boy surviving in the forest, you might come up with a plastic knife and fork. Place this prize inside the cereal box.

10Place your name on the bottom of the box.

3.  Autobiography or biography is was due Friday, February 10th.  This was a 3-paragraph written (preferably typed, but neatly handwritten also acceptable) assignment.  In other words, it told about yourself (autobiography) or told about someone else you know very well (biography).  Provide a brief background paragraph about your family, followed by hobbies and activities you enjoy, then end with a final summary of  interesting facts you would like us to know about you that we may not already know.  If it is a biography about someone else, begin with background information about the person (family, childhood, early years, etc.), followed by a paragraph on what this person has done or some interesting facts about this person, and end with why you chose this individual and/or what he or she means to you.   Special final draft paper will be provided.

4.  The Study Island measurement practice activities are due this Friday, February 17th.

5.  Students who turned in poetry books have now received a grade and their poetry grades.  This assignment was due Jan 20th.    All poetry books turned in will be on display for Young Author's Night, Feb 29th.  If you have not turned in your poetry booklet, you may still do so and receive partial credit for your effort.  I will leave the below instructions on this webpage for one more week for your convenience.

You have received your poetry "How To" packet, which provided instruction on how to complete each of the poems you are required to complete.  Currently, we are now focusing on final drafts.   You are required to go final and to bind your finals into a single bound booklet, which is due Jan 20th.  From the instruction packet, you are required to complete at least 10 different poems.  You may complete more if you prefer.

-- Poems were primarily completed in class, but they may  worked on at home if necessary.

-- Students were required to complete ten total poems by January 20th.

-- Students should bind at least 10 poems into a book for final turn in and presentation.

--  Students should refer to the poetry packet and scoring rubric for further directions and written instructions and examples of each poem.

--  Students were to create a dedication page for their poetry book.

--  Illustrations and/or clip art graphics are encouraged, but not mandatory, except on the cover of your poetry book.
