Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year at Western Sky Middle School. I am looking forward to a new school year that promises to be an exciting one with lots to learn, do, and celebrate.
My name is Rhonda Troy. This is my seventeenth year in the education field. I was a classroom teacher for fourteen years and have been a student advisor for the last two years. I received my bachelor's and master's degrees from Northern Arizona University and obtained my principal's certification last May through Arizona State University. I moved to Arizona from southern California and have been in the Phoenix area for four years. I have two daughters who both graduated from the University of Arizona in Tucson. Meghann is 23 and lives in Las Vegas. Erynn is 22 and is pursuing her doctorate in physical therapy in Charleston, South Carolina.
I have been the student advisor for the eighth grade students during their time here at Western Sky Middle School, beginning with their entrance as sixth graders, moving with them to the seventh grade, and now in their final chapter as eighth grade students. In addition to the eighth grade students, I will also be the student advisor for the sixth grade students on the 6 Gold team.
As a student advisor, my primary responsibility is to be an advocate for students. I am here to help them be successful in their academic, social, and emotional endeavors and to help them develop the variety of skills that they will need to be accomplished, contributing members of our community. In addition, I am responsible for working directly with parents advising them of school problems and solutions and coordinating the development and implementation of instruction by teachers in my assigned grades.
I am excited about the school year and am looking forward to working with a talented and devoted team of teachers, an enthusiastic group of sixth graders new to the middle school experience, with my veteran class of eighth graders, and with the devoted and supportive Litchfield parents and guardians who trust us with their children.
