The purpose of homework is to provide practice to supplement classroom instruction. An additional purpose of homework is to help students develop good, consistent study habits. The student is responsible for understanding homework expectations before leaving school and for completing the assignment on time.
The amount of homework assigned varies based on the student’s grade level, how much work they do not complete in class, and academic requirements in a particular subject area. Most classrooms will assign reading and math every night, Monday through Friday. Talk to your child's teacher if you have any questions.
When students are absent, it is their responsibility to talk with their teachers to obtain missed assignments. Students should get missed assignments completed and turned in to the teacher immediately. Students are allowed time equal to their period of absence to submit makeup assignments. i.e. one day absent equals one day for make up. Students who have been absent or who have been sent home from school by the administration for disciplinary consequences will have 1 day for each day absent to make up work missed at school. Absent students who are having difficulty making up absent work may be assigned to homework club in the morning until all missing work is received.
