Athletic Try-out Information

Athletic Try-out Participation FAQ Sheet

  • How do I know when tryouts will be?

    • Students will be informed of tryouts at a pre-announced before school meeting where they will sign in and pick up an Athletic Packet that must be filled out prior to tryouts.

  • The Athletic Packet includes:

    • Participation Guidelines, Medical Treatment Permission Form, Parental Consent Form and Medical History Form. This form must also be notarized. These need to be completed and returned before tryouts begin.

  • Did they make it?

    • Completion of these forms does not ensure a spot on the team roster, only the opportunity to tryout. A posting of tryout numbers will indicate which athletes made the team.

  • Do I have to fill out a packet for each season?

    • These forms only need to be filled out once for each school year.

  • Is a physical exam required?

    • A Physical Examination Form is included in the packet, but LESD is not requiring a sports physical for this school year.

  • How will athletes prove academic eligibility?

    • Students are required to turn in weekly grade checks to prove eligibility for competition. If they are late or not turned in to the coach, they will be suspended from play for one game until they are turned in.

    • Students must have passing grades in behavior, academics and specials.

    • If a student receives a 59% or lower or a N or U for behavior they will not be eligible to play for the week. Students will not play again until they can prove that they are eligible.

    • If a student receives a 60%-69% their playing time will be limited.

  • Does attendance factor into eligibility?

    • Students must be in school for the full day in order to participate in after school activities.

    • Student athletes are required to be at all days of tryouts, practices, and games. Playing time can be limited due to absences from school or practices.

  • Do athletes get to keep uniforms once they receive them?

    • Uniforms are the property of THMS. Student athletes will be required to properly care for uniforms during the season. If part of an uniform is lost or damaged, the athlete will be responsible to pay to replace it. They will not be eligible to participate in another sport until the uniform is returned in good condition or the replacement cost is paid.
