The goal of the Litchfield Elementary School District Food Services Department is to provide nutritious and appetizing breakfast and lunches for its students. Based on the premise that well-nourished students are better prepared to receive the instruction of the school day, Food Services plays a vital role on the educational team of the school.
Menus for School Lunch
In an effort to cut back on paper consumption, we have moved to a web based menu, which can be found at this website.
Lunch and breakfast menus are planned to meet the American Dietary Guidelines specified by the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. Additionally, menus are analyzed to ensure that, when averaged over a week, meals comply with the American Dietary Guidelines for total fat, saturated fat, calories, protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A and vitamin C.
Offer vs. Served Program
All District Cafeterias operate under the “Offer vs. Served” method for lunch and breakfast. This means that students are offered full meals in accordance with the USDA requirements, but they have the option of refusing part of the full meal for breakfast and lunch. The price of the meal remains the same. However, if a student refuses more meal components than those allowed, then the student must pay an a la carte price for the remaining food items. In addition to giving students the choice to take only food items they will eat, students have the opportunity to pass through the salad bar for every lunch, which offers a large variety of fresh and canned fruits, vegetables and mixed salads each day. We strive to provide healthier choices for our students and have changed to low-fat dairy products and serve more whole wheat baked goods. Encourage your child to choose all the items offered to get an A+ at breakfast and lunch. Menus are sent home each month.
Students may buy breakfast for $1.25 and lunch for $2.50 at all our schools. Students who qualify for reduced priced meals may buy breakfast for $0.30 and lunch for $0.40.
Adult Meals: Parents are welcome to join their student for breakfast or lunch anytime, and are asked to check in at the school office and obtain a visitor’s pass when coming for lunch or breakfast. Adult meal prices are $2.00 for breakfast and $3.50 for lunch.
All students have a meal account with ID numbers. We know that sometimes our student customers lose or forget their lunch money. Monthly prepayments are recommended to help resolve this and prepayments of any size are welcome. Students are discouraged from paying in the lunch line. Deposits should only be made in the morning with check, money order or cash. This allows the lunch line to move more quickly.
You can now look up your child’s account balance on the internet, as well as make online payments to the student account with a Credit or Debit Card. Just log on to https://family.titank12.com.com and follow the directions.
We have a three charge policy, this allows the students to charge three meals resulting in a negative account balances. Please make sure that you are up-to-date on your child’s meal purchases, because we enjoy seeing all the happy faces coming through the lunch line. Students without money will be provided a federally approved alternative meal, consisting of a protein, grain, vegetable, and the students are also offered a milk and fruit. If you have a question as to the number of meals left on the account, please call your school's cafeteria and ask for the Food Services Cashier. Student’s accounts are continuous. If your child had charges at the end of the previous year, the negative balance will be forwarded to the current year. If your child had a balance left on the account, the account will reflect the balance at the beginning of the current year.
A fee of $5.00 will be charged for each insufficient fund check that is returned by the bank.

Free and Reduced Meal Program
If you feel you will qualify for the Free and Reduced Price Meal Program, and would like to apply, please be sure to submit a completed meal application. Only one application is needed for all your children enrolled in the Litchfield Elementary School District (K – 8).

Recipients of CA, Food Stamps, or FDPIR benefits must complete an application if they have not been directly certified for this school year.
Incomplete applications will be returned to you for the missing information – this will delay the approval process. Parents are responsible for payment of meal charges until the application is approved, which may take up to 10 days.
Application Dates: If your child was approved during the previous school year for free or reduced meals, and you wish to continue to receive those benefits, you must reapply within 30 days of the start of the new school year to avoid interruption of benefits. After this date your child will return to full pay until a new application has been received and processed.
