A Message from Superintendent Gunning

Purple for Peyton Ballons Floating

November 22, 2019

Dear Litchfield Elementary School District Community,

It was just one week ago today that our community was jolted by the tragic news of Peyton Munger’s sudden passing. In the midst of shock and heartbreak, we have been overwhelmed by the significant outpouring of support from our community. As public education advocate Jamie Vollmer says, “Schools cannot do it alone.” We rely heavily on our community in good times and in bad, and this week was no exception. We are deeply humbled and immeasurably grateful for the community partners who have supported Peyton’s family and our school family through this unspeakable tragedy.

As our community pushes through this pain together, we are grateful for our faith-based partners, business partners, parent organizations, and countless stakeholders who have reached out to offer support and heartfelt condolences. Every single card, text, and acknowledgement is special and appreciated. We know that our Lltchfield family is most certainly not alone, nor is Peyton’s family. We have been in frequent contact and will continue to support them as time marches on. We are particularly heartened by the growing “Purple for Peyton” GoFundMe account to help the family with countless unexpected expenses.

We are grateful to everyone who has lifted up our team so that our Litchfield family can move forward. Thank you for the support you have offered Litchfield Elementary School District and the loving family of Peyton Munger.

Jodi Gunning, M.Ed.
